Last year me and soon-to-be-guest-blogger Liz Wan got to be a part of something pretty exciting. You might have seen the latest Stella McCartney campaign for her signature scent Stella, which was beautifully shot by the amazing Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott. Well, we were on hand to document the behind the scenes action, from the hustle and bustle of the dressing room preparations, to the fascinating process of Duncan Hamilton creating lifelike ice sculptures of the perfume bottles, to observing Mert & Marcus on the set weaving their magic.
It was especially fascinating to observe how a shoot like this brings together such a large group of top professionals from different creative fields, and how all the moving parts add up to the gorgeous end product. Hopefully this little behind the scenes glimpse might give you some inspiration and an idea of all the different creative disciplines that are involved. Enjoy!
Watching Duncan Hamilton create his ice sculptures was fascinating. Almost as fascinating as listening to his stories from the past several decades of creating art from ice in the wildest of settings!
Probably the sweetest lady in the business. She was such a joy to be on set with.
It was kind of amusing being surrounded by bottles of the scent I use pretty much daily. Familiar and surreal all at once.
As well as shooting stills for the print campaign, the TV commercial was also being filmed at the same time.
